North Cross wins state soccer title (Roanoke Times)

RICHMOND -- The North Cross boys' soccer team won the Virginia Independent Schools Division II title Friday, topping Denbigh Baptist 2-0 at Sports Backers Stadium. Seniors Mark Meyer and Sheel Patel scored, and Yezid Gracia had six saves to lead the Raiders (16-2-4) to the win over the Newport News school.

Mustangs top Glenvar (Roanoke Times)

Chad Raines rushed for 175 yards and two touchdowns and Michael Shelor added 155 yards and two touchdowns to lead Eastern Montgomery to a 33-7 win over Glenvar on Friday night. The Mustangs (5-5, 1-4 Three Rivers District) built up a 14 point lead by halftime and pushed it to 27-7 at the end of the third quarter.

Brad Greenberg's arrival to lead the Highlanders was enough to keep some players around. RADFORD -- The moment Brad Greenberg was hired last spring as Radford University's new basketball coach, he had a positive impact on the program. With the long-time Virginia Tech assistant's arrival, at least two key players, juniors Martell McDuffy and Kenny Thomas, decided not to depart.
